  OL 27 Jan 1931 pp 16 of "The Sunday Times" dated 25 Jan 1931 reported that NMM is to be one of the speakers in a course "Revisions and Revaluations: Studies in Biography" which was to start on Tues 27 Jan 1931. This course led to the publication later that year of the book Revaluations (Studies In Biography) to which NMM contributed an article (E2450) on Elizabeth Garrett Anderson.

  OL 23 Jan 1932 pp 13 of "The Scotsman" dated 25 Jan 1932 carried a report on the Burns Supper held on Sat 23 Jan by the Scottish Women's Club, George Street, Edinburgh. NMM was chief guest and proposed the traditional toast of "The Immortal Memory".
The report also mention that a play by NMM was being produced in London on 25 Jan 1932.
pp 4 of "The Glasgow Herald" dated 25 Jan 1932 carried a similar report under the heading "The Politics of the Poet".

  OL 22 Apr 1934 pp 5 of "Sunderland Daily Echo" dated 23 Apr 1934 reported, under the title of "Novelist's Sunderland Address", on a talk by NMM on the plight of socialists in Russia. The meeting, which had been previewed in the same paper on 20 Apr 1934, took place at The Villiers Theatre, Sunderland

  OL 11 Oct 1934 pp 3 of the 29 Sep 1934 issue of "The Cheltenham Chronicle and Gloucestershire Graphic" noted that NMM would be one of the speakers at a banquet organised by the newly formed society, along with W H Auden, L A G Strong and Graham Greene.
 
  OL 11 Oct 1934 pp 7 of the 20 Oct 1934 issue of "The Cheltenham Chronicle and Gloucestershire Graphic" gave a lengthy account of "the first annual banquet" of the Cheltenham Literary Society. NMM's speech was in reply to the toast of "our guests".

  -- 5 Nov 1935 pp 6 of the 6 Nov 1935 issue of "The Gloucestershire Echo" reported that NMM had been the main speaker at an election meeting on behalf of Elizabeth Pakenham (later Lady Longford) who was contesting the Cheltenham constituency in the General Election. The meeting was held in the St.Clair-Ford Hall, Charlton Kings, Cheltenham. NMM was also one of the speakers at an open-air meeting the same evening in Hewlett Street.
The meeting had been advertised on p1 of "The Gloucestershire Echo" on 4 Nov 1935.

  OL 1 Jul 1937 pp 18 of "The Times" of 2 Jul 1937 reported on The Chesterton Society Dinner, after which a mock court case was enacted in which the defendant was charged with having included women on the Ark. NMM appeared for the defence.

  OL 23 Oct 1937 pp 5 of "The Western Daily Press and Bristol Mirror" of 25 Oct 1937 reported that NMM had given two lectures at the Co-operative Society Ltd.'s Education Centre in Bristol. The titles of the lectures were "Psychological Foundations of Socialism" and "Literature and Politics".

  OB 23 Apr 1938 pp 15 of "The Manchester Guardian" of 8 Apr 1938 reported that NMM was among the many signatories supporting a call for an emergency conference at the Queen's Hall, London on 23 Apr. The avowed purpose of this meeting was to demand the right of the Spanish Government to buy arms for its defence.

  OL Spr 1938 pp 24 of "The Advertiser" - an Adelaide, SA newspaper - of 9 Apr 1938 reported at length on a recent address given by NMM in Elland in Yorkshire. This was in support of her husband who had been adopted as the Labour candidate for the constituency for the 1940 general election. Because of the war this election never took place.

NMM is reported as saying that her subject will be "more or less on what is and what isn't worth sticking to in our Scottish culture".

  OL 10 Nov 1944 pp 3 of "The Scotsman" of 11 Nov 1944 reported that the Secretary of State for Scotland (Mr. Thomas Johnston) had received a deputation from the Scottish Convention. NMM was among the 9 Convention members at the meeting which discussed the need for reform of government in Scotland.

NMM proposed a motion, which was defeated, that the council should protest against the base - and also questioned the proposed method of disposal of nuclear waste.

Former England cricket captain Bishop David Sheppard was to address the rally, and NMM was among many prominent figures who would attend.

  OL 13 Feb 1989 A party was held t 18:30 in the flat above the Library in Edinburgh. Several speeches were made, including one by NMM. A recording was made, and a copy is available to researchers at the Library.
According to the Arts Diary on p B8 of "The Guardian" on 5 Feb 1989 this event was intended to be a fund-raiser for the Library with guests expected to make a donation.
